Turning the Page: My First Week as a Book Blogger…

Well, that first week flew! Is it how I expected…not quite!

When I first decided to launch ReadingEraByEmma, I knew that it wouldn’t be a breeze. I knew that if I wanted engagement & productive conversations, I would need to be consistent (failed that already), come up with interesting content (not sure i’m doing that either) & above all else, continue reading. Well, the later has taken itself off for a walk with my dog and has not come back!

Rather than staying focused on why I started this blog in the first place, I’ve found myself getting far too caught up in engagement, Instagram, and trying to work out how on earth I’m supposed to promote myself. I’d heard Instagram was a good way to drive traffic to a blog, and maybe it is, but at the moment I feel like I’ve spent more time stressing over Stories, Posts, and Reels than actually creating anything. I only learned the difference between a Story and a Reel about two days ago, which tells you everything really.

On top of that, I’ve set myself a completely ridiculous weekly reading goal because my TBR is massive. There are so many books I want to read, and because I only really got into reading properly last year, I can’t help but feel like I’m constantly trying to catch up.

So the question I’m already asking myself is: Am I actually enjoying this?

Right now? No. Not really.

I’m literally writing this whilst having a little mental pep talk with myself. The exact words to myself right now are:

“Breathe. It’s been just over a week. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Get organised and take your time. Remember why you got into this. Get back to reading and the rest will come with time.”

And honestly? That’s exactly what I need to do. I’m going to take my own advice. Thanks brain!

So, here’s the plan.

For Instagram, I’m keeping it simple:

  • 2 to 3 feed posts a week max

  • Stories on 3 to 4 days a week

  • 1 Reel every 1 to 2 weeks

I’ll work on making the days more consistent, but for now this feels realistic. Which is good. Breathe

I have two books that I WILL FINISH this week. Ive been enjoying them both so i’m excited to write the reviews for them. Breathe

I also already know what my next three reads will be, so that’s my focus for the next week or two. Breathe

Right, lets try this again shall we.

Wish me luck!
