Please note this book was provided ahead of release by NetGalley.
Synopsis
Love Overboard follows Ember, an ambitious young woman who lands what should be a dream job as Chief Stew on a Mediterranean yacht while starring on the hit reality tv show, Close Quarters. The problem is that the show’s producers also hire Finn, the man who broke her heart 2 years prior whilst working together on, you guest it, another yacht! Ember is forced to spend the season living and working alongside the last person on earth she wants to spend time with. With cameras everywhere, old feelings resurfacing, with nowhere to hide, the whole saga is staged to be a wild ride for our “viewing” pleasure.
Review
Love Overboard wastes no time in setting the stage for the upcoming drama. The prologue throws you right into the aftermath of Embers and Finns breakup and from what you behold, it wasn’t just a fling on the high seas.
Ember and Finn have the kind of chemistry that only works when the emotional history feels believable, and for me, it really did. Their connection had weight and the story let that tension simmer properly instead of rushing through it.
I also really enjoyed the reality tv angle. A romance set on a giant yacht already screams “man overboard” but adding cameras and the pressure of public exposure gave the book an extra punch in the gut that made this read pretty addictive. It could have felt gimmicky but it didn’t. There is something devilishly clever about forcing two exes with unresolved feelings onto a yacht for a reality show and just seeing what happens. Terrible for them. Great for us!
The setting also worked brilliantly. The whole glamour yacht life backdrop gave the romance a slightly cheesy, over the top energy that added to the charm as a whole.
The one thing I wanted a bit more of was the supporting cast. The crew added a lot of fun to the overall atmosphere which helped balance out all the Ember and Finn tension. They were a great addition so more backstory and hidden cameras aimed in their directions would have made the story feel even more compelling and immersive.
Overall, this was a really entertaining story with strong chemistry and plenty of emotional tension,
making this a very addictive read. If you like second chance romances set in very close yet glamorous setting, this one is absolutely worth boarding!

Verdict
