Review

This was such a step up from Heir of Fire!

So much happened. So much of the plot moved forward. By the time I reached the final page, almost every major character had a completely different role, mission or future compared to where they started.

I honestly don't know where to begin! This is a long book at nearly 700 pages, but it never felt like it was dragging. There always seemed to be another reveal, another confrontation or another piece of the puzzle falling into place.

I also loved how much the supporting cast developed. Lysandra especially surprised me. I liked her before, but this time round she completely changed how I viewed her and she ended up being one of my favourite characters in the book.

This really feels like the turning point for the entire series. Everything up to this point has been building towards something much bigger and this is the book where you finally start to see it.

I read the physical book while listening to the audiobook as I love me an immersive read!! Elizabeth Evans continues to do an excellent job narrating this series. She gives each character a distinct voice without making anyone feel exaggerated, which really helps when there are so many different viewpoints and storylines. I'd definitely recommend experiencing this series in audio if you enjoy fantasy audiobooks.

Now I'm both excited and slightly intimidated to start the tandem read of Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn. I genuinely have no idea where Sarah J. Maas is going next.
