Iron Flame #2 (The Empyrean Series) by Rebecca Yarros
Iron Flame had me locked back into the chaos of Basgiath. The stakes feel bigger, the world expands, and everything is just a lot more intense. The politics, the secrets, the not knowing who you can trust, it really keeps the tension high & the sense of urgency prevalent.
What I really enjoyed was seeing the characters pushed harder this time around. Relationships are tested to the max & loyalties get somewhat muddied & complicated. At certain points in the book, I wasn’t sure who Violet could trust. Her relationship with Xaden goes a little back & forth with no real feeling that they’ll ever be done, I mean it’s clear they are soulmates so nothing bad will happen there right…right?!
The audiobook was also fantastic and definitely elevated the experience for me. Rebecca Soler & Teddy Hamilton do a great job at bringing Violet & Xaden to life. Their voices really suit the characters especially during the dramatic scenes, of which there are plenty! Also it makes this chunky sequel fly by! If you enjoy audiobooks, or even if you don’t or aren’t sure, then I’d absolutely recommend experiencing Iron Flame this way. It makes the action feel even bigger and the dramatic moments hit that little bit harder.
