Onyx Storm #3 (The Empyrean Series) by Rebecca Yarros

So, I definitely enjoyed round 3, but wow!  I felt like I was being emotionally tormented for over 600 pages. And not always in the good way! 

The stakes are high & chaotic & poor Violet once again has both her mentality and physicality tested to the max! The girl is stressed, battered as well as sleep deprived.  I would have flown my dragon to the Maldives by now! Someone please give the girl a holiday.

And of course we have Xaden who continues to be dangerously good at the whole broody, dangerous yet cuddly Labrador thing.  His dynamic with Violet is still one of the best parts of the book.  Their relationship is full of tension & angst which really keeps you turning that page however, you can tell they’re young, like my goodness!  Why are these two sole mates constantly misunderstanding each other & keeping secrets?!

I also listened to the audiobook and had a great time with it. The narration really brings the drama, the banter, and the emotional chaos to life which made the whole experience even more gripping just like the other ones over the series so far.

Overall this was a very good read / listen.  The book ends on a cliff hanger which was a bit, hmmm, I’m not sure I liked it BUT, I’m still going to be dreaming about the sequel, WHENEVER that may be & reading it the second its available!
